Oracle is arguably the one the biggest company in the computer software technology market share, resources, and financial capacity enjoyed by the organization can hardly be matched by any competitor. For this reason, it can be argued that Oracle can readily expand its operations without any financial struggles. The robust strategy of growth also gives the firm a competitive advantage to stay at the top of the industry. However, for the company to achieve and sustain a competitive edge, they need to execute or adopt certain actions. For instance, they need to increase operational efficiency’ to ensure that the services they provide to the customers are sufficient to meet their expectations. Here, the services should be well integrated with an effective architectural approach that seeks to ensure that they are secure from any external interference. Quality software products and services is another key area that requires improvement. Oracle needs to ensure that customers get the value for their money by delivering modern and quality-assured products. The general aim will be to boost customer satisfaction and, subsequently increase brand loyalty. Due to vast technological advancement, the company needs to invest in disruptive innovation. Oracle is a firm that understands that the technology industry is an ever-advancing sector, and for this reason, it is only through constant innovations can the firm keep the pace of its rivals in the market. Through innovation, Oracle can also design services that will help improve the aspect of pricing to achieve competitive advantage. Oracle has sought to position itself in the market as a systems business. Ideally, the organization operates as a multi-platform entity that develops accelerating software to help businesses achieve their financial goals. Cisco also focuses on the aspect of security by ensuring that all its services and products are free from any external attacks (Islam 2018, p.6). Its cloud infrastructure and automation software have also been widely used by customers who believe that Cisco is the best-placed company to address their business problems.
Michael Porter’s suggested that any business firm face competition and it has to choose among three generic strategies – cost leadership, differentiation, and focus – to enhance competitiveness in the market or industry (Schuetz, Mair, and Schrefl, 2018). For Oracle, they can utilize a differentiation strategy by offering unique services that are different from market competitors. In this spirit, the company can offer products and services of high quality and which are customer oriented. That way, they can become unique in the market by offering unique services that add value to their clients. Oracle has significantly mastered the art of collaboration to increase its presence in the market and, subsequently, improve sales. Through partnerships, the company can readily market itself and substantially minimizes its cost of production, thus enhancing profitability (Nevin 2016). Nearly all of its services and products are licensed by other companies, an aspect that can help Oracle save on the costs that would be incurred in such processes. Besides, Oracle is continuously developing products of the seamless databases and centers which are typically centered on the organization’s visualization and cloud architecture. To maintain this differentiation strategy, Oracle can offer utilities to their customers by delivering products and services that meet their needs and preferences. Additionally, the company keeps consistent innovation and enhanced performance to their products and services. That way, the company continues to create its brand image as a provider of world-class services and customer satisfaction. Therefore, through the aforementioned recommended actions, the company can achieve and sustain competitive advantage in computer software technology market.
